Weight Loss Jabs – Psychological and Emotional Therapeutic Support

Weight loss jabs are changing attitudes and our relationship to food. They are changing appetite and allowing individuals to eat smaller amounts of food without the desire to overeat or any cravings. These are a relatively new choice for people who may have struggled with emotional eating, overeating or food addiction.

Medically these jabs have been shown to improve an individuals health on many levels and help them to lead a more healthy lifestyle physically. Despite this there has been current research to say that within 10 months many people are regaining their weight and sometimes even more. This is because without psychological and emotional support and tools to prevent relapse into old behaviours, the individual will struggle to maintain their weight loss. Weight loss alone does
not take away negative core beliefs does not eliminate poor body image, does not quieten the critical voice, does not help with environmental challenges or triggers. More importantly the individual has dealt with only once aspect of themselves. People are not just a number on a scale, they need purpose and a deep understanding of who they are in order to meet all the challenges that life throws out even at a healthy weight.

My model of counselling with disordered eating is very aligned to supporting individuals on their own journey using the weight loss jabs. The therapeutic support I can offer can be provided during the whole procedure from making the decision to go on them, during their use and support for when they are being reduced and then navigating the path to coming off them.
